Hazmat Compliance Onboarding System

FIGMA  |  UX CASE STUDY

Project Overview

A UX design solution developed to streamline the vendor onboarding process by enabling the efficient and compliant submission of hazardous materials (hazmat) information, improving accuracy and overall onboarding efficiency.

Client        -      Lowe's

Industry    -      E-commerce/Retail

Duration   -      3 Months

Problem Statement

The Hazmat team manually inputs hazardous materials (hazmat) information for vendors, as vendors are unable to submit it themselves. This manual process delays the product approval cycle and prevents items from moving downstream.

The lack of a self-service solution creates bottlenecks, increases workload, and slows overall onboarding efficiency.

Project Goal

  • Enable vendors to submit hazmat information independently, removing reliance on the Hazmat team for manual input.

  • Implement WERCS integration to automate compliance checks and reduce errors.

  • Design a user-friendly, dedicated questionnaire for vendors to input hazmat data accurately.

  • Streamline the product approval cycle and improve onboarding efficiency by automating the hazmat submission process, reducing bottlenecks and workload on the Hazmat team.

From research to pixels, it’s all about making things feel clear, smooth, and easy to use.

WERCS Integration
to automate SDS management, verify compliance, and streamline regulatory reporting.

Different Hazmat, Different Requirements
Each hazmat type needs specific documents like SDS, transport codes,
and safety details.

Hazmat Compliance Challenges
Vendors face delays due to complex regulations, documentation issues, and lack of real-time updates.

Risks of Inaccurate Hazmat Reporting
Incorrect or missing hazmat information can lead to legal penalties, shipment rejections, safety hazards, and damage to a company’s reputation.

Final Solution

These are the final design solutions, focused on improving the process. The screens include existing application screenshots to highlight current challenges, as the goal was to refine functionality rather than redesign the UI.

The result: faster onboarding, fewer errors, and a smoother experience for everyone involved. Exactly what good UX should do.
